Teacher’s Assistant, Part-time Position Available

Explorer Preschool , NAEYC Accredited, is a parent participation preschool where children, at an individual pace, can learn and develop through play; and parents can learn and grow in their abilities to be child educators at home, school, and in their community.

Responsibilities:

A teacher’s aide at Explorer is responsible for assisting the head teacher with learning activities during class and acting as Head Teacher during the Parent education Classes (PEC).

Requirements:

Candidates must have a BA degree or AA in Early Childhood Education or; a minimum of 12 units of early childhood education. Additionally, applicants should have experience teaching young children for a minimum of two years in a program that has implemented a developmental curriculum; experience in science is a plus. Additional training will be provided, if hired. Candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Class Description/Hours:

This Aide position will assist the 4-day class (4-5 years old), Monday-Thursday afternoons from approximately

12:00-3:30pm. Our 4-day Class is very unique! We divide 12 weeks of environmental education, between fall and spring, at Vasona Park located in Los Gatos. Choices include creek and water exploration, free climbing, cooking, nature study, hiking, writing experiences, science books and materials.

Our indoor classroom, at Explorer, continues the science curriculum, including field trips, experiments and traditional curriculum developed by an experienced, credentialed teacher. Planning time with teacher and parents, free play with choice of centers, pre-academic skills and self-esteem activities are emphasized, as are creative dramatics.

This position also has the potential for additional hours, as needed, in other classes offered at our school.

Applicants for Teacher Assistant must have:
• Fingerprint clearance
• Negative TB test results
• CPR/First Aid Certified, if hired, must be completed by a date TBD
